Yakama Nation - Larry Garcia says, “Just with in the last year it seems like it’s getting really bad.” Four times in five months, four people killed some drivers say the problem is drunk pedestrians on tribal land. Baltazar Ponce says, “If you get in the middle of the street you get hit oh well, you should have been there, that’s the way I see it.” Sade Malloy, Action News says, “And another pedestrian killed after being hit by a car on Highway 97 here some locals say police are part of the problem.” Crystal Diaz says, “Yeah, they just ignore them they see them on the side of the road and they just leave them there when they should really be picking them up and locking them up” Larry Garcia says, “They need to enforce the law if drunk in public they should be taken in” Action News spoke with a former Tribal Police officer. He did not want to go on camera, he says there is aa Public Intoxication national law on land. But if it is on the books, it’s hard to find. We tried calling the Yakama Nation and tried looking it up, but found nothing. We did talk to State Patrol, they say they do make arrests out there but if you are a member of the nation they have to hand it over to Tribal. Baltazar Ponce says, “Everyone makes their own decision.” But whether it is a law or not some locals say hearing another person has been killed in a car accident is something sadly they’ve just gotten used to. Sade Malloy, Action News says, “So it sounds like categories really not surprised.” Cheryl Lint says, “I am no longer, I am not surprised. |
