Bill on children’s products vetoed

JACKSON - Gov. Haley Barbour, on Thursday vetoed a law that penalizes those who sell dangerous for the children, who said he believes it would be reform of the laws of the State of a crime. The Republican governor said he rejects House Bill 1240, sponsored by Rep. Steve Holland, D-Plantersville. The bill would affirm that in the Mississippi Consumer Protection Act, the diversity of legal standards as a product of Mississippi’s liability statutes, the actions of enhancing protection of businesses. In a press statement, Barbour said the bill would deny Mississippi’s “fair and equitable legal system by setting up another poorly defined the rules applicable to allegations of ill-products, without an indication for Children , which, if applicable, the provisions of the state responsibility for our existing products, the laws would apply. ” But the governor said he would have the legislative power, when he spent a part of what he believes, the positive provisions of the bill. “I support the creation of a list of defective products for children and the list must be provided free of charge and on the Internet available to the general public, children in day schools, families, children care centers, Physicians and children under the license, “he said. It would be a three-fifths majority of the votes of legislation to replace the veto. |
